Harry Reid, Josh Bolton, and Andy Card

Perhaps unlike many here at the MyDD forum, I don't get all my news from the web.  I  get some from (gasp) TV.  Because I'm too cheap and disinterested to pay for cable or satellite, my only TV news source is Jim Lehrer.  I could do worse.

Tonight on Newshour, the clip that was played quoted Harry Reid as saying something like:  Andy Card will be a loss because you  could work with him.  Josh Bolton is a failure.  Look at what Bolton has accomplished.  He has raised the national debt and failed in our economic policy.  He is a bad choice for chief of staff.

I like this reaction.  Here's why:  (Briefly)

I like the emphasis on failure.  This seems like an excellent way to push the points that Dems need to make:

1.  Bush has failed on the economy.

  1.  Bolton has been in charge of the policy leading to a failed economy.
  2.  Bush has appointed a failure (Bolton) to an important post, rewarding failure.
  3.  Bush has lost one of his few reasonable staffers (i.e. Card--"I could work with him.")
  4.  It mirrors the public opinion that Bush has failed on the war in Iraq.

The response:  "Bush has not failed on the economy" repeats the Dem talking point.  People here should be happy about that, because that is typically a Dem faux pas.  It also gives the Dems plenty of opportunity to highlight economic issues.

While I'm not super thrilled about Reid yet.  He keeps earning points in my book.  Would that the Dems in the House did the same.
